Note: No, this isn't a photograph. Yes, this is a digital painting. Yes, it took forever. All of this was hand-painted, this is NOT one of those fake digital paintings where they smudge things around, add filters, and fake it. This was all hand-painted starting with a grey background in Photoshop.
Original image from the L Change the World artbook/movie book with photographs of Ken'ichi Matsuyama as L. This portrait was drawn directly looking at one of those photographs. All I claim is the redrawing and painting.
OMG! This took me forever! I started painting this around April, thinking I'd surprise my girlfriend with it when she got her wisdom teeth out. Well, up until then I'd only done portraits from the neck up, and I spent a whole week on just L's face and hair! It took me another week or two to do his shirt, and by then, I was bored of it so I quit. Speed up to July and I knew I needed to finish this to mail up with her graduation present, so I finished the rest in a week. All in all, it took me between 30-50 hours total, working off and on for a few months.
I'm really please with how it turned out, although the lollipop could look a little more realistic. It was the last thing I painted, so I kinda crapped out. The texture and shine were really hard, so I scattered my brush hoping that would help achieve the effect.
Painted in CS2 with a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet.
